The late ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ artist’s legacy lives on as his bandmates, Brian May and Roger Taylor, have continued to perform as Queen. See photos of Freddie throughout his life here.
Freddie Mercury proved to be a music legend with his iconic band Queen. The British singer-songwriter was born in Zanzibar and grew up in India. He started getting involved in music as a child when he took piano lessons and formed a school band. He went on to study at and graduate from Ealing Art College in London, England before going on to join a series of bands in the area. He eventually joined the band Smile, which later became known as Queen, in 1970. The band went on to release a plethora of successful albums, and Freddie became one of the most recognizable rock singers in the industry. He died of AIDS in 1991.
